Background
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, (or ‘BMW’), is a German automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturing company founded in 1917. BMW’s UK operation is responsible for importing BMW vehicles into the country and supplying them for sale through an independent dealer network.
BMW Benham is the leading supplier in the West Midlands. The new dealership was custom built to increase showroom floor space while also improving the quality of after sales services.
Transforming operations
Industore installed one 7m high Hänel Lean-Lift for the Service Department to help improve stock management and an additional 7m high lift with dual access to link the Service Department with the service bays, allowing engineers to accurately store all their servicing tools, while being able to collect parts efficiently. The new automated system allows the parts team to load up a shelf in the stock room access point and put it into the Lean-Lift for each individual scheduled job on a specific day. All engineers have a barcode on their job sheet and when scanned will bring down the relevant shelf containing all parts needed for that specific job to the service area’s hatch. Thanks to these improvements, any pre-booked work can be loaded into the dual access Lean-Lift for the parts department, making the whole process more effective and efficient.
Two Hänel Lean-Lifts
Main benefit: The Parts Department utilises stock more effectively and has managed to reduce spare part inventory from £300,000 to just £80,000, while still improving performance.
