Background
With a long-standing history in the manufacturing and engineering industry, Stannah Stairlifts, a family owned business, are the UK’s leading independent supplier of lift products in both commercial and domestic buildings.
Project Description:
Stannah Stairlifts required a future-proof solution to replace an outdated and unreliable storage unit situated in their warehouse. To help streamline their picking process, Stannah Stairlifts were looking to implement a new automated system that utilized the height of the facility and increased storage capacity on a small footprint.
Every year, Stannah Stairlifts maintain 92,000 lifts and stairlifts across the UK so it’s essential that inventory is easily located and quickly accessed. As an alternative to traditional pallet racking, two Hänel Rotomat Carousels were chosen and installed in the heart of the facility. Paired with Hänel’s smart MP12N controller, employees can store and retrieve spare parts efficiently.
With specialist departments occupying different levels in the facility, one Rotomat was built with an access point on the lower ground and the other with a retrieval point on a second floor mezzanine.
The results
Since the implementing the Rotomat, Stannah Stairlift has increased floor space by storing a large quantity of spare parts in the carousel. There have been three key improvements for Stannah Stairlifts since implementing the vertical carousel:
